Background

Formerly Wat Suwannaram. The temple registry gives 1784 as the founding year, and the temple is said to date from the founding of Surat Thani town; local tradition credits the Wichaidit family with starting it. Encroachment cut its 50 rai to about 2 rai. After a period of abandonment, the wooden-post ordination hall was rebuilt as a solid building.

What to see

• Two old Buddha images in the blessing posture, housed in a permanent pavilion
• Ancient pond whose water is said to have been used in Grand Palace ceremonies in the reign of King Rama I
